Overview

Miami, America’s most legendary and glamourous beach resort city attracts millions of visitors every year with one of the most vibrant urban landscapes in the world. The turquoise Atlantic waters, white sand shorelines, and luxury hotels of the Miami Beach vacation paradise contrast with the bustle of everyday life in the vibrant and varied neighborhoods that give mainland Miami its unique identity. Metropolitan Miami, home to over 5.5 million people, ranks seventh in the United States for size, and is the largest metropolitan area in the Southeast. What many visitors don’t know is that just a few miles to the west of this busy metropolis, the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in North America stretches unbroken for more than 80 miles to Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Internationally renowned as a unique natural treasure, the Florida Everglades includes over 1.5 million acres of saw grass marshes, mangrove forests, cypress swamps, wooded hammocks and associated wetlands. Sometimes called the River of Grass, the Everglades comprises the southernmost portion of a wetlands complex that stretches from central Florida down to Florida Bay and was created primarily by wet season overflow from Lake Okeechobee. Home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife, this diverse wetland wilderness is crucial habitat for over 350 species of birds, reptiles like the American alligator and crocodile, and mammals such as the West Indian manatee, the bottlenose dolphin and the extremely rare Florida panther.

No visit to Miami is complete without a thorough exploration of the historic neighborhoods, landmark buildings, classic movie locations and many other famous sites that the city has to offer. In the same sense, an essential part of any South Florida visit is a short run west of Miami to experience the Everglades. Urban Miami offers unique enclaves such as the Miami Beach Art Deco District, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Little Havana along with many local landmarks and sites of interest. An airboat ride through the Everglades promises the thrills of an amusement park ride along with the adventure and educational value of a wilderness safari into one of the true wonders of the natural world.

Enjoy a 2.5-hour morning bus tour running for over 30 miles through Miami and visiting interest points including memorials, celebrity homes, the Venetian Pool, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the University of Miami, the CIA’s Top Secret Boat House, the Biltmore Hotel and the cemetery that inspired the music video for Michael Jackson’s hit “Thriller”. Then, a short, scenic 90-minute drive through the outskirts of Miami gives access to the eastern reaches of the Everglades. A 30-minute airboat tour lead by an experienced captain and guide will take you into the wetlands to spot birds such as egrets and herons as well as turtles, alligators and other wildlife. When you return to shore, a wildlife show provides opportunities to view and interact with native species including alligators, snakes, raccoons, panthers and more.

Combine a fully-guided tour of Miami’s top sights with the adventure of a trip into the eastern edge of the Everglades wilderness. Commentary by an expert guide and multi-lingual recorded narration will inform and entertain throughout. These exciting all-day tours depart every morning and afternoon, with courtesy pick-ups from all hotels in Miami Beach. When hotel pick-ups are completed, the tour will begin with a drive past the historic Joe’s Stone Crab Restaurant in South Beach and a walking tour of the Holocaust Memorial on Meridian Avenue. The city tour will finish up with a restroom stop at the Bayside Marketplace, then the bus will depart for the Everglades. After your wilderness adventure, you will arrive back in Miami and hotel drop-offs will begin.
